Removed it and tested in a different (new) PC with same negative result regardless of which cables i used.

Drawer opens and closes and disc spins but no longer recognised by Windows or in BIOS. And, finally, the ASUS replacement unit doesn't even work. Then ASUS took a long time to replace it after i challenged their refusal. So, ASUS first denied my valid warranty claim. Quickly installed a Samsung DVD burner and it worked perfectly. Tried different SATA cable and different power leads in both machines but no output at all when trying to read/read/play a variety of discs. I tested it first in a brand new PC - and it failed! Then tested it in my year-old PC - and it failed again. Then it took 11 days for delivery of a replacement DVD burner. Shipped defective unit to them via UPS Ground and tracking number showed they received it 3 days later. Then a different ASUS rep said they would replace it at no charge.

Reminded them that the product page and their own published warranty terms clearly states that warranty is from date of purchase, not contingent upon a serial number "date". that serial number is no longer under warranty". Provided date of purchase (less than 1 year). Pros: Good while it lasted - approximately 11 months.Ĭons: Requested repair or replacement under warranty.
